Stephen is a Sports Doctor recently commencing work with Axis Sports Medicine Specialists in our dedicated sports concussion clinic. He has a background in general practice and completed his Diploma in Sports Medicine in 1998. For the past 15 years he has worked in rugby medicine with provincial teams, national teams and Super rugby side The Blues. His interest in concussion was generated from his time involved in contact sports, and has led to an education role with NZ rugby for community based rugby and referees.
Stephen is the current team doctor for The Blues Super rugby side, a position he has held since 2008. His previous appointments include Counties-Manukau, Auckland, NZ Under 19 and Maori All Black rugby teams. He has been tournament medical officer for Rugby World Cup 2011 and is an educator for World Rugby in Pitchside Immediate Care.
Outside of medicine Stephen enjoys the feel of hitting the perfect golf shot, rarely achieved but always imagined, and the feel of a fish on the end of a line. He has become a supporter of the performing arts thanks to his three children involved in dance.
