Physiotherapy

In many cases, knee issues can be accurately diagnosed and treated by our physiotherapy team. Our experienced team can see you promptly (generally within a few days), assess your injury and set a rehabilitation programme in place to get you back to being injury free.

In some cases knee injuries can require a co-ordinated approach to treatment, which is where we can bring in our sport and exercise physicians, orthopaedic surgeons and radiology partners.

Orthopaedic Surgery

In some cases, knee injuries do require surgery, whether that’s a minor procedure or major surgery like an ACL reconstruction. Luckily, we have one of New Zealand’s leading knee surgeons Mr Simon Young at Axis as well as strong relationships with a number of other surgeons. Talk to our team about referral options for your injury.

Other treatments and services

We can recommend other treatments to complement your rehabilitation. Depending on your injury or condition, you could benefit from:

  • Pain relief – In some circumstances, you may benefit from prescribed pain relief, which can assist in reducing discomfort and helping you build up your activity levels.
  • Orthobiologics – Non-surgical therapy for many common knee injuries, including cartilage and osteoarthritis.
  • Shockwave Therapy – Fast effective pain relief for common tendon injuries.
  • Knee brace – For added stability to aid in our recovery and reduce the risk of worsening the injury.

Integrated Care

In many cases a rotator cuff injury qualifies for an integrated care pathway (sometimes referred to as Careway), meaning your treatment (including all physiotherapy, surgery, Sport and Exercise Physician consultations and radiology scans) will be completely covered by ACC.

Do I qualify?

All patients must first be diagnosed and assessed before being placed on the integrated pathway. Generally speaking, however, if you have suffered a dislocated shoulder, you have a good chance of qualifying.
