Who is this suited for?
Anyone with a sports injury who feels they aren’t hitting their rehab milestones and are concerned about progress. Maybe you are:
- Feeling like your rehab has plateaued
- Finding it difficult to return to sport.
- Injured and need to recover in time for a specific event.
- Feeling like your rehab is not meeting the demands of your sport.
- Concerned about getting to the start line for an upcoming event.
- Simply seeking a 2nd opinion on your diagnosis, treatment and management.
What is a Sports Specialist Physiotherapist?
Like doctors who specialise (such as cardiologists), Physiotherapists can also focus on specific areas. A Sports Specialist Physiotherapist has advanced training in sports injury rehabilitation and is recognised by The Physiotherapy Board of NZ and The International Federation of Sports Physiotherapists. While many Physiotherapists handle sports injuries, a Sports Physiotherapy Specialist dedicates considerable time to this specific field, offering extra advice and support, particularly for those facing crucial rehab timelines or major sporting events.
In New Zealand, there are only a few Specialist Sports Physiotherapists, and we are fortunate to have Rebecca Longhurst at Axis. Her expertise is highly sought after by elite athletes, and she spends much of her time with High Performance Sport NZ, as well as supporting athletes at major events like the Olympics.
Can my Physiotherapist really come along?
Absolutely. In fact, the best results happen when we work collaboratively with you and your Physiotherapist, and we love working this way too.
However, if they cannot attend, we understand, and will still work with them and communicate our thoughts and recommendations.
